hometown feeling

As the cookies settle, the trash bags fill with wrapping paper, and the Christmas music fades—another year has come and gone. But this last year was special, it was different. Half of it was spent not being in college anymore, pretending to grow up, and beginning this real world phase that everyone talks about. Well here we are, January is about to begin and a new year is almost on its way. I was extra thankful that my entire family was home this time around. My grandparents house is so special each and every year. I feel so incredibly lucky to have such an amazing family and actually get to spend time with them during the holidays. We all got to put our phones away, turn the TV off, and just talk. Even though we tell the same stories every year and we laugh at the same jokes—it doesn't matter. I love it. That feeling—being back where I started.

Every year Dad gathers sticks and some big ol' logs and we all invite a few friends over to enjoy the fire. I'm so glad I got a chance to take a break and relax with my family. Nothing beats it. According to my age, I keep getting older but every time we sit down on the deck it feels the same. The love. The memories. The hometown feeling.
